José Mourinho is reportedly eager to bring Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic to Tottenham this summer after he emerged as an alternative to Marcel Sabitzer.
The Spurs boss is eager to strengthen his midfield options this summer and has been aiming for a deal for Sabitzer. The Austrian has been a standout player for RB Leipzig in recent seasons, having signed from Rapid Vienna in 2014.
But with Sabitzer’s contract expiring in 2022, his departure this summer seems increasingly likely. In fact, sports director Markus Krosche said recently that talks about an extension are on hold.
Last month Tottenham was claimed to be leading the Sabitzer queue in a £ 25 million deal.
However, according to reports, it may not be easy for Tottenham. In fact, the Spurs are not alone in their search for Sabitzer. He has been under the watchful eye of Liverpool in recent weeks, while other stakeholders are also expected to emerge. As such, President Daniel Levy fears his asking price could extend beyond what the Spurs are willing to pay.
In fact, a report this week claimed that Leipzig could seek up to £ 45 million for Sabitzer.
Furthermore, failure to secure Champions League football would seriously affect Tottenham’s chances of landing Sabitzer. While he has welcomed discussions about a move to England, It is believed that he would want to sign for a team capable of offering him Champions League football.
Sabitzer has addressed the claims about his future and admits that winning trophies is his main motivation.
“Salary is not my main objective at the moment. I’m pretty good, I don’t have to worry about it every day, ”he said.
“I don’t play soccer to build a cash box after my career. I play for success. I have always been a winner and I want to win trophies ”.
With that in mind, Tuttomercatoweb, via the Daily Express, claims that the Spurs have turned their attention to Lukic.
The 24-year-old has been a bright spark with Torino this season in their battle to beat relegation from Serie A. While he has only scored three times this season, he has excelled in his midfield and done well in the battles against some more established players. .
The Serb is worth around £ 10 million, a deal that wouldn’t break the bank.
And the Express claims Mourinho sees Lukic as a perfect addition to his midfield ranks alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele.

Palace is also interested in Sasa Lukic
Tottenham, however, are not the only team interested in Lukic, and Crystal Palace is said to be on his trail as well.
Roy Hodgson’s team was reported to have seen an approach in January for the downed midfielder. However, they are reportedly still interested and could launch a new offering for their signature in the summer.
Understandably, there is also said to be a lot of interest in Serie A.
However, London is said to be their preferred destination and the European soccer offering could turn the tide in Spurs’ favor. That will be music to Levy’s ears too, especially amid claims that the Sabitzer price will go up.
