New compositions deal with works by these women composers. They come from Elisabeth Fußeder, Mayako Kubo, Kateřina Piňosová-Růžičková, Katharina Schmauder, Meike Katrin Stein and Hanna Schüly.

Shivaratri – A night for the god of dance
Fr, 12.03.2021 | 20:00
Live from the E-Werk Freiburg
https://www.infreiburgzuhause.de

Genre: Indian dance
Saukante League
Hartmut Schmidt

In the two South Indian dance styles – expressive Bharata Natyam and humorous and audience-friendly Ottan Thullal – the Freiburg artists Liga Saukante and Hartmut Schmidt celebrate in the chamber theater of the e-Werk Shivaratri, a national Indian festival in honor of Shiva, the god of dance.

In the classic Bharata Natyam, Shiva is shown as the destroyer and the renewer, as Ardhanarishvara – half man, half woman and the liberator. The Ottan Thullal story Antaka Vadham describes how Shiva destroys the god of death. What follows is a critical but also very humorous consideration of a society in which death no longer exists.

Antaka Vadham is performed in the German transmission from Malayalam (national language in Kerala).
