The filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard announced that he was finishing “his life as a filmmaker”. After completing two scenarios he’s working on. He announced it in an interview conducted as part of the Kerala International Film Festival, which took place in India from February 12 to 19. The famous Franco-Swiss filmmaker, a great figure in the New Wave movement, is now 90 years old.
It was his meeting with Jean-Pierre Beauviala, an engineer from Grenoble, inventor of the Paluche (an ultra-light camera, and director of the Aäton company) that led him to leave Paris to come and settle in Grenoble at the end of his career. the year 1973.
With his partner Anne-Marie Miéville, he reconstitutes his video studio in Grenoble where he creates a new production company called Sonimage. He brings Gérard Teissèdre, specialist in video, photography and automatic control, to Grenoble to ensure the implementation and innovations of the video studio. He directed “Number two” and the establishment of the Sonimage workshop where he experimented with video and produced a series for television. He produced “Comment ça va” (1975), a reflection on the role of the press.
In 1976, tired of his life in Grenoble, he had the premises of the Sonimage company emptied without notifying the staff in place (Sonimage was subsequently condemned for these facts). Godard moved to Rolle in Switzerland in the spring of 1977 with his partner Anne-Marie Miéville.
At the screening of his film Les Carabiniers, he met his muse, Juliet Berto, born in Grenoble who made her first film appearance, in 1967, in the film “Two or three things I know about her”. She then played in several other films by the Franco-Swiss director, “La Chinoise”, “Week-end”, “Le Gai Savoir” in 1969 where she played “the daughter of Lumumba and the cultural revolution” and “Vladimir and Rosa “.
