Ceeriale – The Autofiori has reopened but you travel on only one lane. At 6am the firefighters and Autostrade technicians, after working all night, managed to clear a lane of the southern carriageway towards Genoa. At 9.30 a lane was also opened in the direction of France.
The repercussions on traffic were very heavy: at 9.30 they were registered 21 kilometers of queue between Spotorno and Borghetto Santo Spirito towards the west. Queues and slowdowns also towards Levante and Aurelia, in both directions.
The mayor of Borghetto, Giancarlo Canepa, had launched an appeal on Facebook during the night, pointing out the possible inconveniences this morning: “We invite you not to move with private cars unless for strictly necessary reasons”. This morning a meeting was held in the Prefecture: A briefing with the Prefecture is in progress. “It will take some time to clear the existing traffic – the mayor wrote this morning – In support there are 3 patrols of the Municipal Police of Borghetto, one of Toirano and the volunteers of the Civil Protection of Borghetto. The municipal of Ceriale is guarding the critical point of the roundabout after the castle. Pay attention ”.
The tragedy
The Autofiori was closed to traffic in both directions on Thursday 4 March all 16 after one head-on collision between two heavy vehicles. In the accident 52-year-old Polish truck driver, Bilonohov Mykola, lost his life. He was driving a tanker which, according to what was reconstructed, went off the road, overwhelming the dividing guardrail and invading the opposite lane. The driver of the other vehicle involved is hospitalized at the Santa Corona: his conditions are serious.
The vehicle removal operations lasted all night
The two vehicles, after the collision, had overturned occupying both lanes. The tanker was only removed this morning and the asphalting operations, carried out urgently, are still in progress.
