Serge Gainsbourg died 30 years ago, on March 2, 1991. During the first years of his singing career, he came to perform in Nancy, Salle Poirel. It was February 4, 1965. The artist was invited by the circle of letters students of the faculty of Nancy.
And he was not alone: with him, on stage, another very great artist, also at the beginning of her career. This is the singer Barbara. If they had already worked together, it was the first time they had shared a scene in the provinces.

In a video visible on the INA website , questioned by a journalist on the difference between the Parisian and provincial public, Barbara has this answer: “No, the public is the public. It has the same gravity, whether in Paris, Versailles or Nancy ”. Those who had the chance to attend this concert which brought together, 56 years ago, two of the greatest French artists must keep fond memories.
To Nancy, Barbara describes the song as her “second wind”, her “way of breathing”. Serge Gainsbourg himself, spoke about jazz. For him: “The French are violently anti-jazz, jazz has an unhealthy side, it is not for all hearts”.
He had no idea that the city that hosted him was going to be the cradle, barely ten years later, of one of the greatest jazz festivals …
