Football – Freiburg im Breisgau – Streich demands Petersen: “He has to invest a lot” – sport

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – In view of the increasingly athletic opponents, coach Christian Streich sees his veteran striker Nils Petersen now particularly challenged in the training of SC Freiburg. Like everyone else, Petersen is getting “older by the day,” said Streich on Thursday of the 32-year-old, who last missed the 2-1 win in the Bundesliga at Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the first time in a long time.

“Of course Nils has to make sure that he continues to assert himself up there against these guys with this enormous athleticism,” said Streich before the home game against RB Leipzig on Saturday (3.30pm / Sky). “The Nils can score any goal from any position in the penalty area. He can score goals from 40 meters away. He has outstanding technique – but like everyone who works in this area, he has to make sure that he is in this condition brings. ” This is the task that Petersen now faces.

“He has to work for that in training. He has to invest a lot, and he will do that because he is very, very ambitious. And then we will see him score goals here for the next few years,” said Streich. “Let’s just see how long he’ll play at this top level.”
