Good news at last ! And in these times of sinistrosis, we are not going to be choosy. Sunday, the flea market will make its big comeback at Place de la Liberté in Thionville. The most recent took place last year, in October. In other words, an eternity.
Pressed by hawkers, second-hand dealers and other antique dealers who were idle because they had been reduced to outright inactivity for many weeks, the municipality of Thionville took the time to consider the admissibility of their request. “We asked the sub-prefecture and the prefecture, which confirmed to us that the decree of October 2020 indeed authorizes the holding of open markets as well as flea markets and second-hand goods”, specifies Martine Hamzaoui, head of the regulatory department at the city of Thionville.

Don’t come too early
The news quickly spread to street vendors. “As we do the collection of locations on the day of the market, it is impossible to determine in advance the number of exhibitors who will be present this Sunday”, points out Christophe Maurice, usher of the city, who nevertheless believes that “It will take between 200 and 250. Especially since the good weather is announced”, he rejoices.
“Be careful not to come too early,” he warns, in the direction of exhibitors but also visitors. Curfew requires, no one without authorization is in fact supposed to be outside their home before 6 a.m.

A loyal clientele
Claude, second-hand dealer from Morsbach, took note of the information and will thus avoid a possible plum. For him, having the opportunity to exercise again is quite simply “magnificent!” I am so happy to come back to Thionville where I started over 40 years ago. I have developed a loyal clientele there. Sunday, I will unpack 15 meters of goods. It’s been over a year since this had happened to me, ”he rejoices.
Hoping that by then, local containment will not be established for the duration of the weekend, as is the case in Nice and Dunkirk.
