– Nintendo will unveil a new Switch with a larger OLED screen this year

Rumors about new and upgraded Nintendo Switch models has been buzzing since almost before Nintendo released the very first variant of the hybrid console. Now the rumor mill has gained momentum again, and this time it is claimed that a new Switch variant with a larger screen will be unveiled later this year.

It is Bloomberg who have received sources with knowledge of the situation in question. These tell the website that Nintendo has entered into a partnership with Samsung to produce seven-inch OLED screens for a new Switch model.

Compared to the LCD screen of a standard Nintendo Switch, the OLED screen will apparently use less battery, while delivering sharper contrasts and potentially faster response time. In terms of size, this is a small upgrade from the original Switch screen of 6.2 inches.

The resolution on the screen is reportedly the same as before, ie 720p in handheld mode. In TV mode, however, there may be other bowls, with support for up to 4K resolution – up from 1080p on the current version.

According to Bloomberg’s sources, Samsung will begin mass production of the screens as early as June. The goal is initially to achieve just under one million units, which could end up in new Switch machines by Christmas.

Neither Nintendo nor Samsung has commented on the matter, but rumors claim that the former is planning to announce the new Switch during the year.
