Shortly after 1.30 p.m., a major alarm was triggered by the fire brigade. When they arrived, parts of the building were already on fire. The fire brigade was able to prevent the flames from spreading to surrounding industrial buildings and brought the fire under control.
According to the current state of the investigation, all people in the building when the fire broke out were able to leave the building unharmed before the emergency services arrived. Due to the acute risk of collapse, the emergency services have not yet been able to penetrate the inside of the building.
In addition to a large contingent of the Zurich canton police, the fire brigades from Hinwil, Uster and Wetzikon, as well as an SBB fire engine, two ambulances from Schutz & Rettung Zurich and Regio 144 as a precaution, the Wetzikon city police, a specialist from the AWEL, the responsible governor and community representative of Hinwil in action.
For safety reasons, the SBB had to interrupt the route between Wetzikon and Hinwil. In the wake of the major fire, the trains of the fire brigades and the Zurich canton police had to cordon off a large area of the fire area and set up bypasses.
Due to the heavy smoke development, the Zurich canton police asked residents to keep windows and doors closed. Meanwhile, the all-clear could be given again. Despite the heavy smoke development, there was no danger to humans or animals at any time.
