Prime Minister Jean Castex placed, Thursday, February 25, 2021, the Moselle department under reinforced surveillance, due to the strong circulation of the virus, the presence of the South African and Brazilian variants on the territory and hospital pressure. However, many gatherings have been observed in space and on the public path, creating a concentration of population which favors promiscuity and prevents respect for the rules of social distancing.
Also, alcohol consumption is a factor that can promote the formation of such spontaneous gatherings on public space and roads. It is likely to reduce the application of barrier measures and respect for physical distancing.
Consequently, Laurent Touvet, prefect of Moselle, decided, by prefectural decree of March 2, 2021, to ban alcohol consumption in public spaces and on public roads, including in parks and public gardens. This measure is applicable on the territory of municipalities with more than 10,000 inhabitants, from this Wednesday March 3, 2021.
