The first day of March inaugurated the opening of the blood drive in Moissac. “We are now expecting 75 blood samples”, informs Edith François, general practitioner working at the EFS (French blood establishment) in Montauban since 2016. At 11:30 am, the Hall in Paris was already well filled. Some donors were patiently waiting their turn on red chairs in the middle of the room, others were being collected a little further away. On the left side, the five volunteers of the association “Don du sang” made sure to serve food and water to the donors. “The conditions are very strict this year. You have to respect a gap of 2 meters and bring each person food and a bottle of water”, explains Jérôme Pougnand, vice-president of the association.
Attendance is similar to that of last year: “People understand that they must continue to come since the resources are not inexhaustible”, believes Edith François, who continues: “The collection works very well but there is a Covid effect that is being felt. Some collections have been canceled in high schools and some companies. A drop in attendance during school holidays has also been felt “.
Albert, a blood donor for 7 years, in the process of eating, explains his motivations: “Today I give, but maybe tomorrow I will need it too”. Her neighbor at the table, Anne-Marie, has been claiming her desire to “save lives” for ten years.
Today Tuesday, it is possible to donate blood from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and to tick reason number 3 on your certificate if you come after 6 p.m.
