Garbage cans set on fire, projectiles thrown at the police, and even a liquid suspected of being acid … tensions are back in the districts of the Dijon agglomeration, in Les Grésilles, in Fontaine-d’Ouche and in Chenôve. But according to the departmental director of public security (DDSP) Jean-Claude Dunand, it should above all be seen as a reaction to the increased presence of the police:
In the neighborhoods, the presence of the police disturbs
“Since we have twenty additional police officers within the DDSP, we have intensified our actions in the field in the context of the fight against urban violence, and especially drug trafficking. And certain operations which are carried out at points of deals like last week at Les Grésilles, lead those who control trafficking and the underground economy to want to exclude us from the territory, by committing urban violence, to make us understand that we are not welcome. “ So, according to him, “a consequence of the action, more determined” police officers.
These twenty police officers are the famous reinforcement announced by the Prime Minister last summer at the heart of the Chechen affair in Dijon. And let the inhabitants be reassured, they are not sitting behind a desk. “They were mostly assigned to field units”, explains Jean-Claude Dunand, “to deal with situations of delinquency and public security”.
The noose tightens around the traffickers
There is no lawless area in Côte-d’Or, says the DDSP, but areas “in which we are not welcome”. In the evening of this Monday for example, an action “was organized in the Greuze district, three people were arrested, investigations are underway. In all sectors, we have the same approach, in conjunction with elected officials and municipal police.”
A speech that contrasts with the feeling of abandonment expressed by the inhabitants in the cities concerned. But then again, there is an explanation: “There is an exercise that we did before the covid period, it was to go and meet the inhabitants, both in Chenôve and in Dijon. We are determined to resume them when possible. Nevertheless, there is still the daily security police site with the email address at the level of the DDSP, which allows us to send us complaints that we try to deal with as soon as possible. “
