KONTAN.CO.ID – Jakarta. After injecting the corona virus vaccine to health workers, the Covid-19 vaccine began to be given to public service officers and athletes at the end of February 2021 yesterday. So far, no dangerous side effects have arisen from the corona virus vaccine.
Just like vaccines in general, the corona virus vaccine can indeed cause side effects. The side effects of the corona virus vaccine can include low-grade fever, fatigue, headaches, and muscle aches. The side effect of the corona virus vaccine is the body’s response when the vaccine is doing its job to increase our immune system.
But citing a Cleveland Clinic report, the corona virus vaccine can actually cause an effect called the “covid arm”. What is the Covid Arm?
According to dermatologist Debra Jaliman, the covid arm is a delayed reaction to the skin after giving the corona virus vaccine. “It appears that this is an allergic reaction, a skin reaction that occurs after getting the injection,” he said.
This reaction is characterized by the appearance of large redness of the skin, especially over the area given the injection. Covid arm can also be accompanied by itching and pain when touched.
What makes this side effect of the corona virus vaccine different from the others is that it only appears after five to nine days after injection. In fact, the vaccine effect usually occurs within one to two days.

Is Covid Arm dangerous?
The good news is, this Covid arm is not dangerous because it only happens for a short time. The Covid Arm occurs only as part of the immune system’s response to vaccines.
According to Jaliman, the Covid arm will usually disappear within 24 hours to a week. This reaction is also not life-threatening, only resulting in a large reddish rash on the skin.
The emergence of the Covid arm can also be a sign that the immune system is working excessively.
How to deal with the Covid arm
If you experience a Covid arm after getting the Covid-19 vaccine, just overcome it by using a cold water compress to help relieve inflammation. You can also take a pain reliever, such as Tylenol, if the rash is accompanied by pain.
When administering the second dose of vaccine, it is recommended that the injection position be placed in a different area. This is to prevent side effects in the same arm position.
However, the side effects of the corona virus vaccine are less than the benefits. So, we don’t need to be afraid of injecting the corona virus vaccine.
If you have already had your turn for the corona virus vaccine, don’t delay it any longer. Immediately visit the health service as scheduled for the corona virus vaccine injection.
