Taiwan has successfully tackled the coronavirus pandemic

Hardly any other country has contained the corona pandemic as rigorously as Taiwan. The man behind the sweeping strategy, Minister of Health Chen Shih-chung, explains the success factors.

If there is one face to Taiwan’s highly successful fight against Covid-19, it is that of Chen Shih-chung. Practically every day at 2 p.m., the CDC gives a press conference to inform about the pandemic, and health minister Chen usually does this personally. Since January 2020, the 67-year-old has also been head of the Central Epidemic Command Center – a task force within the CDC with far-reaching powers.
