Less noise – new approach procedure to the airport – FFH.de

In Offenbach, Hanau and Mainz it will be much quieter in the sky as of today: Frankfurt Airport is testing a new approach procedure.

Because of the Corona crisis, there were already significantly fewer planes on the way, but the new procedure will also flow around the cities in the future.

Already tested at night

Actually, the process is not entirely new. In the past ten years, the “segmented approach”, the quieter final approach, has already been tested on delayed planes after 11 p.m. Now, however, the procedure for approaches from the south is also being tried out during the day.

Flights over less densely populated areas

The planes then do not fly in a long straight line towards the runway as before, but only turn in very late. In the best case, that means no more aircraft noise in Mainz, Offenbach and in the Kinzig valley.

It is unclear whether the procedure will remain after Corona

It is still unclear whether the procedure will be continued after Corona, when air traffic increases again.
