Strategist against the pandemic in Mexico is hospitalized – Telemundo El Paso (48)

MEXICO – The official in charge of managing the pandemic, the Undersecretary of Health Promotion and Prevention, Hugo López-Gatell, has been hospitalized since Wednesday for COVID-19, the Secretary of Health (SSa) recognized this Sunday.

His hospitalization was “early” and “preventive” in the face of a “possible complication”, revealed Ruy López Ridaura, General Director of the National Center for Preventive Programs and Disease Control (Cenaprece) of the Ssa.

“His medical team decided to hospitalize him and he has been hospitalized since Wednesday and with a very favorable evolution and we hope that he can return tomorrow,” the official revealed in the daily technical report of COVID-19 that is given in the National Palace.

López-Gatell tested positive for the virus on Saturday, February 20.

Since last Wednesday, the SSa reported that López-Gatell required oxygen assistance without revealing that he was hospitalized.

But this Sunday the newspaper La Jornada published that the undersecretary was admitted to the Citi-Banamex temporary hospital in Mexico City, something that in principle they denied, but was finally confirmed by López Ridaura.

However, the official exclaimed that it is “totally false” that López-Gatell is seriously ill.

The pandemic has left the country exhausted after the death of nearly 200,000 people and with a very battered economy.

“He required a treatment in the sense of a moderate covid state already with oxygen requirement and that is why his medical team considered, evaluated, the need for an early hospitalization, with monitoring and with hospital treatment,” said López Ridaura.

López-Gatell’s disease occurs while Mexico this weekend celebrates 1 year of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the country, the third country with deaths from the new coronavirus behind Brazil and the United States.

The Mexican government registered 458 new deaths from COVID-19 in the last day to accumulate a total of 185,715 deaths with that disease, in addition to 2,810 new infections for a total of 2 million 086,938 infections.

López-Gatell, 51, was reluctant to use a mask in the epidemic and on many occasions assured that it was not “useful” or that its effectiveness was low to avoid contagion, a claim that the president, Andrés Manuel López, has replicated. Obrador.

The Undersecretary of Health was five days before his positive in the morning conference of López Obrador, in which he coincided with the president, who suffered from COVID-19 at the end of January, and with the Secretary of Defense, Luis Cresencio Sandoval, who announced its contagion a day later.
