The Angels. The American bestselling author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates is set to write the script for a new Superman film. The 45-year-old African American, who often takes up socio-political issues, posted the well-known Superman logo on Instagram on Friday. It is an honor to be invited to the DC universe, quoted the industry journal “Variety” from a message from the author. He is excited to make meaningful contributions to the legacy of the iconic superhero.
Writer and director want “new, strong, moving Superman story”
Director JJ Abrams (“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”) is on board as a producer. They wanted to tell a “new, strong and moving” Superman story, Abrams promised. At first nothing was known about a possible director and the cast for the “Man of Steel” from the planet Krypton, who grows up on earth as Clark Kent. According to “Hollywood Reporter” there is speculation in the industry that the new Superman could be a black hero.
In the award-winning non-fiction book “Between Me and the World” Coates had addressed racism. His novel “The Water Dancer” is an unusual slave story. Coates also has comics experience. For the Marvel publishing house he wrote a series about the black superhero “Black Panther”.
