Liverpool beat bottom Sheffield and cut streak of four straight defeats

On the final day, Liverpool achieved their first league victory of the month of February, after four consecutive defeats in the Premier League, thanks to the 2-0 inflicted on bottom Sheffield United in their match on the 26th date of the English championship.

Liverpool appeared in the Sheffield stadium morally touched after accumulating so many defeats, which caused their exit from the Champions League positions, and it was not until the second half that they managed to see the door. The young Curtis Jones (49) was in charge of opening the can and the ‘Blades’ defender Kean Bryan deflected to a goal in his own door a shot from the Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino emulated him fifteen minutes later (64).

This balsamic triumph allows the ‘Reds’ to stop their free fall in the table and get closer to fourth place in the table. The formation led by Jürgen Klopp remains 6th but now with 43 points, which means being one behind Chelsea (5th) and two behind the surprising West Ham (4th).

On Thursday (20:15 GMT), Liverpool host Chelsea at Anfield.

Before, Manchester United (2nd) wasted the gift that Leicester (3rd) gave them, who fell 3-1 against Arsenal (10th), and could not get past the tie (0-0) at Chelsea.

Tied on points with the ‘Foxes’ at the start of the day, United did not meet their goal of putting land in between with them and could only scratch one point in their visit to Stamford Bridge.

The ‘Red Devils’ are second in the standings with 50 points, one more than Leicester and five above West Ham.

All these results benefit the leader Manchester City, who after beating the ‘Hammers’ 2-1 on Saturday already has a 12-point advantage over his Mancunian neighbor and is approaching the league title.

In addition, this Sunday Tottenham (8th) thrashed Burnley (15th) 4-0 with a double from the Welshman Gareth Bale.

The attacker had his best performance since he returned, on loan from Real Madrid, to the North London team. The Welshman advanced to the ‘Spurs’ (2) and closed a win (55) that fills with confidence to those of José Mourinho to try the assault on the Champions League positions in the remainder of the campaign.

In between, Harry Kane (15) -after a long pass from Bale- and the Brazilian Lucas Moura (32) made the other two goals this Sunday.

The victory does not position Tottenham in European positions but it brings them closer. The ‘Spurs’ provisionally march eighth with 39 points, five of Chelsea and six of West Ham.

Arsenal, meanwhile, is in the middle of the standings (10th with 37 points), although still far from the places that give access to the Champions League, but after qualifying for the second round in the Europa League, on Thursday, achieved Against Benfica, their win this Sunday is very promising.
