send message by apple watch

hello, I just received my first apple watch I took it in GPS version as I always have the phone near me and I wanted to give it a try, with the computer I sent a message to the skype account which is in my iphone from my 2nd account to see if I could see the skype messages even if I do not have the application on the watch, I receive the messages well but I see that when sending a response with the shows it only sends when I unlock my phone, is that normal? I thought to send a message from the watch to save time before going to my iphone or my computer but apparently it is not possible
