Previously, Thomas Kumbernuss (Die PARTTEI) and Christopher Zenker (SPD) had a bit of criticism that the Greens application mostly only called for what the administration was already doing.Specifically, it is about the area that was last occupied and used as the “Black Triangle”. “A new place for music and creativity” is to be created there, as stated in the title of the Greens proposal. One of the plans is to accommodate the “Distillery” and “TV Club” clubs there, because they have to or have already had to leave their previous locations at the Bayerischer Bahnhof and Eutritzscher Freiladebahnhof.
Clubs, galleries and cafes planned
In addition to the clubs, galleries, cafés and possibly municipal facilities are also to be built in the “Gleisdreieck”, emphasized Kasek in his speech. It would be a project that would be “unique in Europe”. At the same time, however, the interests of residents in the immediate vicinity of the site must also be taken into account. During the debate it became clear that there are currently violent disputes between the parties, some of which have been carried out through lawyers.
Several city councilors and also Mayor Burkhard Jung (SPD) expressed the hope that a consensus could be found in the further proceedings. In case of doubt, however, the “right to own home” is more important than the importance of club culture, emphasized CDU City Councilor Michael Weickert. His group rejects expropriations.
Whereupon FDP city councilor Sven Morlok (privateer) interjected that expropriation was currently not an option, the city council only provided the framework – if there was no agreement on the balancing of interests, there would be courts that would then be responsible.
In addition to the interests of the local residents, the question was briefly what culture actually is. Roland Ulbrich (AfD) recognized “no need to publicly promote techno music”. The “Gleisdreieck” is “not a high culture project”. The term “entertainment district” was later mentioned in his speech.
A question of culture
Thomas Kumbernuss then pointed out that no “techno temple” should be built there because, for example, galleries were also planned, and Michael Weickert criticized Ulbrich’s “narrow understanding of culture”.
With this, Weickert again showed more understanding of culture than his parliamentary group colleague Karsten Albrecht, who claimed that the occupation of the “Black Triangle” had nothing to do with cultural use. Juliane Nagel (Linke) had previously thrown it around. In fact, concerts were held there during the occupation. A small band rehearsal room and exhibition room for artists was also created.
The city will now examine whether it can participate financially in the planning process and whether there are municipal institutions that can support the project. The majority of the parliamentary groups voted in favor. The AfD voted against it; the CDU abstained.
