Dubai: Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabahi has been named for the 60th National Day of Kuwait. The road was renamed after Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It is one of the oldest historical sites in Dubai. Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street was renamed Al Mankool Road, which runs from December 2 Street to Dubai Creek on Thursday. Road and Transport Authority (RTA) Chairman Mathar Al Thayer said the name change was significant because it was linked to the emirate’s history.
The area is home to a number of tourist attractions and heritage sites, including Al Seef, Al Hudaibah, Al Hamriya, Al Jafilia, Al Mankool, Al Rafa and the Grand Souk. The Dubai Rulers’ Court is also in the Iowa region.
Following the name change, 55 signs and signboards across the road were replaced. Al-Thair said it was a tribute to Sheikh Sabah’s contribution to the unity of the Arab world.
