St. John’s: Chris Gayle returns to West Indies T20 squad two years later After 9 years, the Windies pacer Fidel Edwards has been named in the squad.
Gayle, 41, last played for the West Indies in 2019. Gayle also announced that it would be his last match for the Windies. But Gayle walked out of the retirement decision. Both have been named in the squad for the T20 series against Sri Lanka. Edwards last played for the Windies in 2012. The series against Sri Lanka consists of three T20 matches.
Off-spinner Kevin Sinclair has been called up to the Windies squad for the first time. Left-arm spinner Hossain was also included in the T20 squad. Cricket West Indies lead selector Roger Harper has said that they will field their best squad to retain the T20 World Cup.
Chris Gayle has excelled in the last few tournaments. Including Gayle in the team will add value to the team. Harper pointed out that the inclusion of Fidel would also give the bowling department the intensity they need.
The Windies have also announced their squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Test captain Jason Holder has been named in the ODI squad. There are three ODIs in the series. Russell, who was affected by Kovid, will miss the T20 series.
