It turned out that ceramics bought for less than 40,000 won in the US second-hand trading market cost 500 million won.
According to CNN on the 24th (local time), the owner who suffered a windfall with the ceramics purchased the ceramics at a’yard sale’ held last year in a house in Connecticut (selling used items in the yard).
He bought this ceramic for $35 (about 40,000 won) and immediately contacted the auction company Sotheby and asked for an appraisal, saying, “It looks like an important thing.”
As a result of the appraisal, experts estimated that the ceramics were commissioned by the Chinese imperial family in the 15th century during the Ming Dynasty.
The ceramics are expected to be exhibited at the Sotheby’s auction in New York next month, and the expected auction price is up to 500,000 dollars (about 555 million won).
Angela McArtier, director of the Chinese art division of Sotheby’s, said of the pottery, “I can see the incredibly smooth and soft glaze.”
According to Sotheby’s, there are only 6 pieces of antiques similar to this porcelain in the world. Similar ceramics are housed in the National Palace Museum in Taiwan and the British Museum in London, England.
