During these weeks, numerous 14 and 15-year-olds face the decision to go to school or an apprenticeship. A decision that will affect all future life. “It is important to us that all young people looking for apprenticeships contact us, that we support them well. There is a job test here that you can take, you also have a lot of support options digitally, ”said Petra Draxl, Managing Director of AMS Vienna. And companies would also receive massive support from the AMS.

If you want to make a career with an apprenticeship, it is not easy at the moment, because the number of vacant apprenticeship positions in Vienna has fallen massively during the pandemic. But many entrepreneurs have been hit by the coronavirus pandemic. But right now they have to invest in the training of their employees, emphasized Alexander Eppler, education officer of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce: “Personally, I consider apprenticeship training to be the best form of training, and I know what I’m talking about, I’m also a former apprentice. And apart from that, it’s never a one-way street. ”There are no upper limits, emphasized Eppler. After the skilled worker, you can still go on, the master’s title, go into self-employment and other things.
Apprentice at Wiener Linien
70 apprentices are currently being trained in technical professions in the main Wiener Linien workshop in Simmering. In autumn it should be 90. Some of them are particularly encouraged. Wiener Linien benefit greatly from their apprenticeship training. One in four Wiener Linien employees will retire in the next ten years. There is an urgent need for skilled workers, for example in the driving service, in administration and in the workshops. Wiener Linien is particularly proud that most of the apprentices who learn a trade here stay with the company.
The largest education fair in Austria, BEST, also offers opportunities to find an apprenticeship position or simply to make contacts. It will take place from March 4th to 7th, as usual in these times in digital form. Many young people made contact with the economy through this fair and found an apprenticeship.
