In the municipality of Milan, in Caquetá, 61 families are putting down roots, almost literally. In mid-February, they received the material supplies to start your home garden projects with which they can guarantee, at least, food for their members.
That is the plan of the special community support schemes with which the Victims Unit hopes to implement home gardens and other local projects, as an effective and comprehensive strategy to contribute to the food safety of these families and promote their roots in the municipalitysince the beneficiaries were deflated by the Colombian armed conflict.

“The unit has a special offer aimed at the population that has return and relocation plans approved in the municipalities”, Explain Norma Varon, territorial officer of the Victims Unit. “Milan will be the largest municipality to be supported with this offer, as seven production projects were approved, of which five have already received the inputs for their projects”, confirm.
Ensuring food security is key if we take into account that, according to figures from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in 2018 the 4.8% of Colombians did not have a guaranteed daily diet. However, the country has gained ground in this regard, since between 2004 and 2006, the percentage of Colombians without food security was 9.7%.

In addition, added to the machetes, hoes, rakes and even smoking machines, the 21 families from the urban center of Milan and the 41 from the San Antonio de Getuchá area, They will receive training for six months in species management, substrate preparation, fertilization and pest management. With this, they hope to have what it takes to put down roots again.
