Restrictions in train traffic from Monday

Leipzig / Riesa. The construction work on the railway line between Zeithain and Weißig continues. In preparation for the actual track construction, which is to begin in September, eight-hour closures will be necessary from Monday onwards. From March 1 to April 21, rail traffic in this area will come to a standstill between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. From April 17 to 18 and from April 19 to 21, the route will even be closed all day.

As a press spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn announced, the trains are to be rerouted on a large scale. Rail travelers sometimes have to be prepared for 30 to 60 minutes longer travel times. Deutsche Bahn therefore asks all travelers to find out about their actual departure and arrival times before starting their journey.

The ICE connection between Frankfurt / Main and Dresden ends in Leipzig. For the onward journey to the Saxon state capital, travelers have to change trains. The Intercity from Cologne via Magdeburg to Dresden will also be rerouted between Riesa and Dresden.

Trains tend to start in Dresden

This increases the travel time between Leipzig and Dresden by around 30 minutes. In the opposite direction, the trains in Dresden depart up to 30 minutes earlier. There are two-hour long-distance connections between Leipzig and Dresden instead of the hourly long-distance connections.

There are also extensive changes in regional transport. Commuters in particular should inform themselves in good time. “All timetable changes have already been incorporated into the electronic timetable in advance,” said the railway spokeswoman. They can be called up from online travel information (Internet, DB Navigator), in the travel center or at ticket machines.

The reason for the track construction work and the associated train diversions is the expansion of the Dresden-Leipzig line in the Zeithain-Leckwitz section. By 2025, the railway wants to make this route passable for ICE speeds of up to 200 km / h and is converting to modern interlocking technology.

In 2028, the last section is to be converted from the Riesa to Zeithain junction. The German Unity Transport Project Number 9 (Dresden-Leipzig) is expected to be completed in 2032/33 after a total construction period of over three decades. (SZ / jö)
