We will soon be able to go see the famous Sagrada familia … in Montauban! A reduced model replica (1 / 50th) all in bolts will be reassembled there, then exhibited. It is the largest Meccano model in the world. It’s the Montauban toy museum who organizes this transfer. The piece was first built in the 1990s by three enthusiasts. It was exhibited in Barcelona in Spain, right next to the real Spanish basilica, then it was partly dismantled in crates, which are now in Calais.
750 kilos and 3.5 meters in height
The founder and director of the Montauban Toy Museum, Gérard Misrai, hopes to be able to implement the reassembly of this model in March or April, but there is no date set for the moment, because the current context health crisis still makes a number of factors uncertain. “To put it back together, what I would absolutely like is for little boys and girls, helped by people who know. In particular by one of the three characters who created this model, and who has the time took nine months to build it. ”details Gérard Misrai.
One of the three designers of this Sagrada familia Meccano version, which resides in Alsace, will therefore make the trip to Montauban to support the “reconstructors”. A precious help, especially since the plans of this model have disappeared. Once assembled, the piece will be displayed in the lobby of the Hôtel du Département, which has a ceiling high enough to accommodate its 3.5 meters high.
To finance the transport of the pieces from Calais to Montauban, the Toy Museum is launching a call for donations. The president of the establishment estimates, after requesting a quote, that this transport costs around 2,500 euros. A high sum for its structure, deprived of income because closed due to the health crisis.
