JAKARTA, iNews.id – Earlier this year, WhatsApp have been hit by data privacy issues. The issue was raised after the social media company issued a new rule that forced users to agree to it.
However, WhatsApp still has so many users. Although there are reports that WhatsApp has decreased users by up to 11 percent.
Also this year, WhatsApp turns 12 years old. Through its official Twitter account, WhatsApp wishes itself a birthday, and shows off its advantages over similar apps.
WhatsApp said, there are more than 2 billion active users every month who send more than 100 billion messages, and also make more than 1 billion calls every day.
“We will continue our commitment to your privacy with end-to-end encryption. Always and forever. Happy 12 years WhatsApp!” wrote WhatsApp, Thursday (25/2/2021).
For your information, in 2009, Brian Acton and Jan Koum were the founders of WhatsApp, after they quit their jobs at Yahoo! Then in 2014, Acton then sold WhatsApp to Facebook. The price is no joke, at that time it was already priced at USD22 billion.
Now Acton is rebuilding a similar application that was predicted to be safer, namely Signal. Acton is the Executive Chairman of the Signal Foundation, an organization that assists with the development of the Signal application.
Signal is a messaging application that has seen an increase in the number of users in the last few days, after being recommended by the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, through his personal Twitter account.
