Schwerin (dpa / mv) – There should be more corona tests in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s schools in the future. All primary school teachers can undergo a weekly antigen rapid test from March 1st to March 26th, as the Ministry of Education announced on Thursday in Schwerin. The tests would be carried out in the schools by aid organizations such as the German Red Cross, the Arbeiter Samariter Bund, the Malteser or Johanniter. Johanniter-Unfallhilfe, with which the Ministry of Education has concluded a corresponding contract, is responsible for coordination.

In addition, all teachers and school staff could have a weekly PCR test until March 31st. So far this has been possible every 14 days. For the PCR test, employees would have to go to their family doctor or an ENT doctor. The doctors could settle the costs with the state through the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

In addition, the ministry announced that it would “soon” offer corona self-tests at all schools. A time for this was not given. The first three corona rapid tests for self-use received special approval in Germany on Wednesday. Education Minister Bettina Martin (SPD) appealed to school employees to take advantage of the test offers.
