Greater fears among daycare workers due to virus mutations

According to the ver.di trade union, many educators in Lower Saxony and Bremen are fearful of the spread of the corona mutations. They were very worried about their own health and that of their families. According to Ver.di, the personnel situation in many institutions in Lower Saxony is tense and the use of emergency care is increasing. The union also considers the opening of the daycare centers planned by the city of Bremen for the limited regular operation in March to be wrong in view of the infection.

EU summit discusses problems with vaccinations

The fight against the coronavirus is the focus of a special summit of EU heads of state and government today. The question is how vaccinations against the virus can be accelerated. The EU is currently lagging behind, for example, with Great Britain or the USA, mainly because of the lack of vaccines available. The EU states therefore want to advise on simpler approval of the funds, higher production and faster deliveries. Another topic could be the introduction of a European vaccination pass, for which Austria, among others, is campaigning. Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said on ARD that he envisions an app on the mobile phone that will document whether one has either been vaccinated, recovered or tested. The point is that as many people as possible can move freely in Europe again by summer at the latest.

NDR Info Interview: Brinkhaus fears excessive easing

The parliamentary group leader of the Union in the Bundestag, Ralph Brinkhaus, looks with concern at the federal-state meeting on the corona crisis in the coming week. Brinkhaus said in a radio interview on NDR Info that he feared that restrictions could be loosened too much. It is also not good if each federal state makes its own decisions. If the hardware stores are allowed to open in one country but not in the neighboring country, there is a risk of shopping tourism. In view of the continued high numbers of infections and the danger posed by the virus mutants, this must be prevented. With a view to the ongoing problems with the corona vaccinations and rapid tests, the CDU politician said that he assumed that everything would be uneven in the coming days. More and more vaccine doses would be available and the corona tests for self-application would in all probability be available in the discounters in March.

Mask distribution in MV: What is the truth of ver.di’s criticism?

The service union ver.di criticizes the distribution of FFP2 masks by the state government in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. There are indications that the deliverers of the masks are not even paid the minimum wage of 9.50 euros, according to ver.di. The “Nordkurier”, which, according to the State Chancellery, organizes the distribution centrally through its subsidiary, contradicted the representation of the union: All deliverers involved are paid the minimum wage of 10.35 euros.

Hamburg: Often wrong information in vaccination appointment applications

In Hamburg, people who are not yet in line are apparently trying to get a corona vaccination with false information when making an appointment. According to information from NDR 90.3, around 200 people who wanted to be vaccinated were sent home in the past week alone, even though they had a vaccination appointment. In around a third of the cases, those rejected were under 80 years of age and therefore not yet entitled to be vaccinated.

The service is to be adjusted to the announced vaccine deliveries. In the state of Bremen, up to 2,500 people can currently be vaccinated per day.
