The reasons his show at BlizzCon 2021 was censored on Twitch

Metallica

Metallica is a band that has been quite active during this pandemic season and has offered more than one presentation through virtual means. Faced with the impossibility of doing a face-to-face tour, the Californian band has joined several digital events, the most recent being the BlizzCon 2021, conference organized by the video game company Blizzard. The group’s performance was broadcast by different media such as YouTube and Twitter, but it was only on Twitch where his participation was censored.

The metalheads began to play a single song, “For Whom The Bell Tolls“, and before starting the short show, his vocalist James Hetfield He commented: “We would have liked to be with you in person this year, but obviously we cannot do it, so here we are and this is for you.”

The strange thing was that when Hetfield and company began their live performance, it was not the song in question but a copyright-free 8-bit melody. That angered a good part of the audience who had tuned in to the show from the aforementioned platform in the hope of hearing Metallica.

Quickly, the discontent of the fans was felt on social networks with various messages of mockery and harsh criticism of Twitch, since it is not the first time that something like this has happened in one of their streams. In fact, on more than one occasion, users of this service have been warned to be careful with what is playing in the background during their broadcasts so as not to be censored for copyright reasons.

Because of this, many were encouraged to describe the aforementioned incident as “absurd” and to point out how “surreal” such a situation was for them.
