DEL: Kölner Haie hope for playoffs – Mannheim expands top

The Kölner Haie can still make chances of making it into the playoffs of the German Ice Hockey League.

The team of the former national coach Uwe Krupp won the small Rheinderby against the Krefeld Penguins after a penalty shootout with 5: 4 (2: 2, 0: 1, 2: 1) and are sixth in the northern season. The Grizzlys Wolfsburg in fourth have five points more than the Haie. The best four teams qualify for the knockout round. The penguins remain last after the seventh defeat in a row.

The Haie professionals Marcel Barinka and Jason Akeson converted their penalties, while Krefeld failed each. In the regular playing time, Barinka (4th minute), Marvin Ratmann (9th), Zachary Sill (42nd) and Frederik Tiffels (60th) scored the goals from Cologne. Martin Schymainski (7th), Niklas Postel (17th), Lucas Lessio (33rd) and Arthur Tianulin (59th) scored the goals for Krefeld at the bottom.

Adler Mannheim have extended their lead in the southern group. The eight-time German champions won the Nürnberg Ice Tigers 4: 3 (1: 1, 2: 1, 1: 1) and is in first place with twelve points ahead of ERC Ingolstadt and EHC Red Bull Munich. After the 14th season defeat, Nuremberg remains in last place and has only theoretical chances of making it to the playoff.

At the sixth success in Mannheim, Matthias Plachta (4th), Taylor Leier (38th), David Wolf (39th) and Benjamin Smith (48th) met for the guests. Tyson McLellan (5th / 49th) and Dane Fox (23rd) were successful for the Ice Tigers.
