JAKARTA – In the middle of the plague Covid-19 , disease cancer become a serious threat to public health. During 2020 alone, there were 400,000 new cancer cases in Indonesia.

Refer to the report World Health Organization (WHO) through the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which was published in December 2020, Indonesia was listed as the 8th most cancer patient in the world, reaching nearly 400,000 cases during 2020, where 54 percent of cases were women. .

It was also stated that breast, cervical (cervical), and uterine (ovarian) cancer were the highest types of cancer affecting women, while lung, prostate, liver, and colon (colorectal) cancer mostly affected men.

This was raised in a virtual discussion about the ins and outs of cancer that was held by Parkway Cancer Center (PCC) some time ago. According to PCC Senior Consultant Medical Oncology, Dr. Wong Ciung Ing with a mortality rate of 59 percent, it is very important to know the ins and outs of cancer, its causes, signs of appearance and symptoms, and the form of treatment.

Moreover, there is no definite cause for someone suffering from cancer. The occurrence of cancer is generally associated with a variety of reasons ranging from an individual’s genetic profile to lifestyle habits such as smoking. Recognizing the signs and symptoms and the right diagnosis early can make a significant difference in treating cancer.

“Breast cancer still dominates cancer cases in Indonesia, accounting for 20 percent of cases affecting women. Women need to be educated about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer,” said Dr Wong.
