The government has decided to extend the suspension of operations for flights departing from the UK by two weeks until March 11. The government temporarily suspended flights departing from London Heathrow Airport and arriving at Incheon International Airport from December 23rd to 31st last year, and continued to extend it, as the Corona 19 mutation virus was reported one after another in the UK. It is known that the mutant virus, which is prevalent in the UK, has about 70% higher spread than the existing virus.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of the 15th of this month, the number of countries with mutant viruses from the UK increased to 94. Mutations from South Africa and Brazil were counted as occurring in 46 and 21 countries, respectively.
To date, the number of people who have been confirmed to be infected with the mutant virus in Korea is 109 from the UK, 13 from South Africa, and 6 from Brazil. Most of these people came from overseas, but there have also been successive cases of group dissemination within the region through family and relative gatherings.
