When Neymar turned his back on FC Barcelona in 2017, Kylian Mbappe was apparently a hot topic at Camp Nou. Junior Minguella reveals this in an interview.

The transfer of Neymar away from FC Barcelona and towards PSG is still number one in the list of the most expensive football deals with an unprecedented transfer fee of 222 million euros. Barça then filled the vacancy with Ousmane Dembele, but were also interested in Kylian Mbappe.
“I can confirm it”, explains Junior Minguella, the son of the well-known broker Josep Maria Minguella, in an interview with CADENA DOPE. His father knew at the time that Neymar had an agreement with PSG, but the Barça directors either didn’t know or didn’t want to believe it.
“They didn’t want to do anything before he left. The moment Neymar left, the staff and the president were at odds over who to sign. They thought Dembele was a better fit than Mbappe.”

Some employees in Barcelona even said at the time that Mbappe was a ghost that had not yet achieved anything. According to Minguella, there was an offer for 130 million euros plus 25 million euros in variable payments, Mbappe should earn between ten and 16 million euros net in the year.
In the end, however, the Barça planners decided against the French, who in the summer of 2017 initially switched to PSG on loan from Monaco for a year and was committed to 145 million euros after the loan period expired. The 22-year-old is now without a doubt one of the best players in the world.
