Streaming Music Service Has Reached Nearly Half of the World Population

Jakarta

Music streaming service Spotify is now expanding its network to more than 80 new territories. The coverage of the new area is spread across Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Europe and Latin America. With this addition, Spotify can now be accessed in 170 regions.

Not only adding coverage, Spotify has now added 36 new language options to the app, making it easier for users to access the app in the language they use daily.

“Spotify is currently available in almost half of the world. However, there are still millions of creators and billions of listeners who do not yet have access to Spotify. So, I want to tell you the news. Over the next few days, we will significantly expand Spotify’s global footprint.” Spotify CEO, Daniel Ek, on Spotify Stream On.

According to Daniel Ek, the development departs from data showing that music streaming services are now increasingly popular. In his broadcast, he said these conditions were different from when he first started the Swedish company in 2008.

In that year, the total combined music sales, which consist of physical and digital sales figures, earned USD 17 billion. From this figure, music streaming applications only contributed USD 300 million or the equivalent of 2% of total sales.

However, the opposite condition was shown in 2019 when selling music through music streaming could reap USD 20 billion. In other words, more than half of music sales are made through music streaming services.

“Since 2008, Spotify has expanded to 93 countries and went from thousands of listeners to more than 345 listeners,” said Daniel Ek again.

With the addition of the coverage area and language carried out SpotifyIn addition to the increasing number of listeners, they also hope for an increase in the number of creators. The target is that by 2025, Spotify will distribute the works of 50 million creators.

This target is considered realistic when looking at the growth rate in the number of creators over the past three years. “Three years ago, Spotify had 3 million creators on our platform. Since then, that number has continued to increase every year – from 4 million, to 5 million, to 8 million by the end of 2020,” he said.
