The SCR Altach relies on a new coach in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga. On Tuesday evening, the Vorarlbergers announced the immediate release of Alex Pastoor and his assistant Martin Bernhard. After 18 laps, Altach is tied with Admira with only twelve points. From the last seven rounds there was only one victory, three games without a win.
“We did not make the decision easy for ourselves. Unfortunately, the measures taken in winter and many discussions did not bring the desired sporting development. That is why we have now come to the decision to fill the position of head coach for the decisive phase of the season,” said Altach -President Peter Pfanner in a broadcast. After a strong first half and a 1-0 break lead, Altach had clearly lost 5-1 at Vienna Austria on Saturday. The home side’s turn was initiated by a goal after a clear offside position.
Already twelve defeats
Pastoor has been with the Altachern since mid-March 2019 – as successor to Werner Grabherr and interim coach Wolfgang Luisser. Altach was penultimate at the time and the neo-coach led his team in the qualifying group to keep up and rank ninth. In 2019/20 they even made it to eighth place and into the 1st round of the League European Cup play-offs, in which they ended up against Austria. In the current season they have twelve defeats with three wins and three draws.
The dismissal of Pastoor made for the third change of coach this season. At the penultimate Admira, Damir Buric, who had already worked in the south of the city in the past, followed the surprisingly resigned Zvonimir Soldo and his interim trainer Patrick Helmes in September 2020. At the beginning of the year, Miron Muslic succeeded Gerald Baumgartner, who was on leave on December 15, at the newcomer SV Ried. Ried is tenth four points ahead of Altach, so the three currently worst teams have already swapped coaches.
Is Canadi coming?
According to a report by 90minuten.at, the successor of the Dutchman is Damir Canadi. From January 2013 to November 2016 he was already working as an SCRA trainer, made it to the House of Lords at the first full attempt and sensationally ranked third in 2014/15 and eighth in 2015/16. In November 2016 he switched to Rapid, where he was not happy during a short guest appearance. As a result, he was engaged twice – most recently until the beginning of February – for the Greek first division club Atromitos Athens and between 2019 for around six months for the German second division club 1. FC Nürnberg. (apa)
