Street in New York is said to be named after MF DOOM

On Monday became a Petition launched to rename a street in New York the KMD-MF DOOM Way in honor of the late rapper and producer MF DOOM.

KMD-MF DOOM Way

The “KMD-MF DOOM Way” committee wants to get the Long Beach City Council to bear the name of the hip-hop mogul on the block on East Hudson Street between Riverside Boulevard and Long Beach Road.

Long Beach played a fundamental role in MF DOOM’s life and rap career. After the rapper temporarily landed on the streets in the early 90s after a legal battle with his label and the death of his brother Dingilizwe “DJ SubRoc” Dumile, he withdrew from the limelight to get his life back on the right track. During this period, “his teenage experience in Long Beach called him to reinvent himself as the MF DOOM,” the petition reads.

“Long Beach should be proud of its son and honor him and his legacy on a street sign. It is just as important that the city preserves the unity that Mr. Dumile represents for generations to come. “

Since its inception, the petition has already received more than 600 digital signatures. The goal was set to 1000, which in view of the current development can be rated as an achievable resolution.

MF DOOM wouldn’t be the first rapper to have the honor of having a street in New York named after him. The Wu Tang clan recently announced that a street in Staten Island would be named after him. The Notorious BIG was previously immortalized this way in Brooklyn.

Sudden death

MF DOOM died unexpectedly on October 31, 2020. A cause of death is not known to this day. Also strange is that the rapper’s death did not become public until two months later after his wife published a statement.

“The best husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover, and friend I could ever ask for. Thank you for all of the things you have shown, taught, and given to me, our children, and our families. Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give them another chance not to judge and copy quickly. Thank you for showing me how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be. “

But MF DOOM is far from being forgotten. Billboard reported last monththat the on-demand streams of MF DOOM’s song catalog increased 870 percent after his death. In the same week, there was also a 2879 percent increase in song downloads purchased. Earlier this month, the video for DOOM and Madlib’s legendary 2004 Madvillain song “All Caps” was officially released in HD for the first time.
