At ten to four in the morning, the 1-1-2 received fifty calls informing that there had been an explosion and a fire in a flat on Tirso de Molina street in Molina de Segura that the sixth was burning plan of a seven-story building. Callers warned that people were trapped.
Local police patrols, firefighters from the Murcia Region Fire Extinction and Rescue Consortium were mobilized to the site, reaching up to 18 firefighters from 3 parks with 7 extinguishing vehicles, and ambulances and medical personnel with 5 mobile units of emergencies.
At 4.30 am, firefighters had controlled the spread of the fire and rescued people who were trapped on the upper floors and terrace.
The health workers of 061 have treated 3 seriously injured people who were one of the firefighters, 43 years old, who has fallen to the ground from an undetermined height, who has been transferred to the “Virgen de la Arrixaca” hospital in Murcia, polytraumatized. The Councilor for Citizen Security of Molina de Segura, Julia Fernández, has told us that this firefighter is out of danger.
According to what Caden SER has learned, this firefighter fell from the sixth floor into the building’s light patio when entering the affected house to put out the fire. He did not realize that the wall that overlooked said patio had disappeared due to the explosion, so he continued to advance and fell into the void.
The other seriously injured is a 54-year-old woman, who has been transferred to the Burn Unit of the Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital.
The third seriously injured was a 41-year-old firefighter, who has been treated for heat stroke and taken to the Morales Meseguer hospital, although his condition is not serious.
The Councilor for Citizen Security indicates that the police are investigating the origin of the explosion that caused the fire.
Another 7 people have been treated for smoke inhalation and have not required transfer to a health center, the same as another, treated for an anxiety crisis.
Technicians and volunteers from the Civil Protection of Molina de Segura and the Red Cross went to the place collaborating with the emergency services in assisting the evicted people.
