About two weeks ago, the zoo announced that the four-year-old Malaysian tiger cat Nadia had tested positive for the virus. “As far as we know, it is the first time that a wild animal has been infected with Covid-19 by a person,” the zoo’s chief veterinarian, Paul Calle, told National Geographic magazine afterwards.
A carer probably carried the virus but showed no symptoms. The protective measures have been increased. The zoo has been closed to visitors for around three weeks due to the corona crisis. In the United States, the virus was also found in two domestic cats.
