Just one week from what should be the start of classes, the controversy over how to return to the classroom continues. More than 40 trade associations of the school community made a call not to return to the presence, since they cannot ensure the health of children.
In parallel, the educational establishments already put into practice their protocols to receive their students, in line with the call that the Government has made through the Ministry of Education.
In this context, different associations of proxies, educational assistants, teachers, kindergartens and schools -more than 40 in total- signed a public statement where they accuse that there are not the minimum measures for the return to classes, in addition to requesting the return from phase 4
In this regard, the Minister of Education, Raul FigueroaFaced with the questions, he reiterated that parents are the ones who make the decision whether their children will participate in face-to-face classes.
“It is essential that parents are the ones who make the determination to incorporate their children into face-to-face activities,” said the Minister of Education.
From the Association of administrative and technical assistants of the National Board of Kindergartens (Aprojunji) its president, Susana Cristi, made a call not to send children to kindergartens since last year’s protocols did not work, so they cannot ensure the health of children.
“We call on families not to take risks and continue for now with remote work until conditions improve,” Cristi warned.
In addition, they presented seven proposals for the opening of schools. They ask that their opinions be heard, have sanitary conditions especially assured infrastructure, maintain criteria of labor exception for civil servants who have underlying diseases.
Also include the COVID-19 disease in the School Insurance, inoculate officials with both doses and return only in communities in phase 4 of the Step by Step plan that defines the restrictions by commune according to their sanitary condition.
The mixed modality will prevail in a large part of the schools, the Ministry of Education called for the establishments to open their doors especially for those students who do not have good connectivity.
