(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Chae Sae-rom = Huawei has unveiled a new foldable phone that looks exactly like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series.
According to industry and foreign media on the 23rd, Huawei held an online new product presentation in Shanghai, China on the 22nd (local time) and unveiled its third foldable phone, the Mate X2.
Mate X2 adopts the’in-folding’ method that folds inward like a Samsung Electronics foldable phone, unlike its predecessor, Mate X and Mate Xs, which fold outward.
Huawei has been claiming the superiority of the out-folding method so far, but it seems that it has not overcome the limitations in terms of display durability and experience.
When the Mate X2 is folded, the external display is 6.45 inches, and when the screen is opened, the main display is 8 inches.
A 50-megapixel main, 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, 12-megapixel telephoto, and 8-megapixel telephoto camera was attached to the rear, and a 16-megapixel front camera was attached to the external screen. When unfolded, there is no camera on the main display.
The mobile application processor (AP) is equipped with’Kirin 9000 5G’ produced through a 5-nano process, and the operating system (OS) is expected to apply the’Hong Meng OS’ developed by Huawei for the first time from April this year.
Huawei CEO Richard Yu explained, “There is enough chipset production for foldable phones,” and “We are increasing the production on a weekly and monthly basis.”
Huawei insisted that its products are excellent, especially when comparing the Mate X2 and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 at this event.
CEO Yoo said, “Galaxy Z Fold 2 is 7.6 inches wide and is 120.4mm wide, but the Mate X2 is 135.3mm wide.” “He emphasized.
He explained that the display wrinkle was improved compared to the Galaxy Z Fold series by minimizing the gap that occurs when the display is folded.
Mate X2 will be sold in China from the 25th. The price for the 56GB model is 17,999 yuan (about 3,100,000 won), and the 512GB model is 18,999 yuan (about 3.27 million won). Like its predecessor, it will be difficult to release outside of China.
US CNBC analyzed that “the future of Huawei’s terminal business is being questioned due to numerous US sanctions,” and “The Mate X2 launch is a product that shows Huawei’s commitment to the premium smartphone market.”
