It’s all about patients. Double buffer for those who enter, increased security
TERAMO – Last Saturday, an outbreak of Coronavirus emerged in the Medicine department of the ‘Mazzini’ hospital in Teramo from in-depth investigations on a patient on the way to discharge who showed abnormal symptoms compared to the clinical picture and who then tested positive for the swab.
“All the patients in the ward, all the staff, including the staff in charge of the distribution of food and cleaning were immediately subjected to a swab – the ASL said: 14 hospitalized patients tested positive, while all the staff tested negative. The safety protocol was immediately activated, which is added to the normal procedures which consist of a swab on incoming patients, performed in the emergency room, and an additional molecular swab performed on patients entering the medical department “
All the departments with which the patients came into contact were therefore notified, both for transfer and for consultations. And 2 medical patients transferred to Cardiology tested positive. All infected patients have been transferred to Covid wards and the other negative patients are swabbed every day to continuously monitor their conditions. In the meantime, all the patients discharged in the last week have been called and will be tracked by the UCAT.
In the afternoon, at 3.30 pm, the results of the swabs performed in the morning gave new results: another 8 patients in Medicine and 6 in Cardiology. These patients were also transferred to the Covid wards. The general management, in a meeting that took place in the morning, ordered the increase of safety measures, further increasing the level of supervision and control also on the accesses to the hospital. An urgent meeting of the Crisis Unit has been called for tomorrow at 5 pm.
