Whale again group stuck at infamous coastal New Zealand | Abroad

Authorities say a group of 49 pilot whales, a species of whale, has been found some 90 kilometers north of the tourist town of Nelson. More than sixty people try to keep the animals alive until high tide again. They are kept cool and wet.

Pilot whales more often wash ashore at Farewell Spit, a kind of hook made of sand that protrudes into the sea. That happened at least 10 times in the past 15 years. The previous major incident took place in 2017, when about 700 of these animals washed up. About 250 pilot whales did not survive.
