Final spurt in the extension to the Grasberg elementary school – Wümme Zeitung: Latest news

The scaffolding has long since disappeared at the Grasberg elementary school. The extension with the auditorium, cafeteria and administration wing is complete, only the last remaining work and the acceptance tests are missing. (CARMEN JASPERSEN)

Grasberg. The end of the construction work on and in the Grasberg elementary school is in sight. The administration will inform about the current construction progress at the next public meeting of the Committee for School and Education with residents’ question-and-answer time on Tuesday, February 23, from 7 p.m. in the town hall, Speckmannstraße 30. Accordingly, the electrical and dry construction work in the extension is finished and so are the painters – and flooring work can be completed as the transitions between the extension building and the existing school wing on the ground floor and first floor have also been made.

But before school life can really fill the new rooms, technical approvals as well as the final approval by the building regulations office of the district are necessary. Other topics in the committee are the expansion of the day care center of the German Red Cross on Gefkensweg, the formation of groups in Grasberg’s daycare centers for the kindergarten year 2021/2022 and the additional space requirement.

The technical acceptance in the extension of the primary school should take place in March, says chamberlain Heiko Hartwig when asked. After that, the administration can ask the district for the final acceptance. When this happens, depends on the schedule of the building regulations office.

With the extension, the Grasberg elementary school has grown by around 600 square meters, including the auditorium and serving kitchen for the cafeteria area. The municipality has invested “regardless of the issue of all-day school operation”. The reason for the construction was therefore the lack of rooms for groups, specialist lessons, administration and staff. The project costs around 3.4 million euros.

Nevertheless, all-day school is also an issue in Grasberg. From 2025 there will be a legal right to all-day care in the elementary school, and the administration says: “In the course of the expansion of the Grasberg elementary school and the renovation of the existing premises, the Grasberg community created the basic spatial requirements for possible all-day school operation.”

Demand survey

“We’re on the ball,” says the general deputy of the mayor, Stefan Ritthaler, when asked by the editorial team. The municipality does not just plan on going. “We adjust to the needs of the parents.” The administration knows that this has changed in recent times.

A survey should determine more precisely. This is currently being prepared by the CDU parliamentary group and its chairman Silke Paar says: “It is clear to us that such a survey has to be carried out.” But first, the CDU parliamentary group wanted to coordinate with the school management. Then the Grasberg parents should be asked about their all-day needs, whose children are looked after in one of the Grasberg day-care centers. “These are our future schoolchildren,” said Paar.

The SPD parliamentary group is pulling in the same direction. Its chairman, who also heads the School and Education Committee, Elke Schnakenberg says about a possible all-day school: “The municipality has done what it could do. We are prepared by the premises. ”But more important is:“ How do the parents see it? ”Therefore, the SPD, before any further planning, advocates asking the Kita parents about their needs. On the part of the leader of the Green Group, Sabine Alpers, it is said: all-day school – “generally yes”. But not mandatory, but on a voluntary level. And: “We don’t want after-school care to be abolished because of all-day school.”
