Researchers discover way to communicate with sleeping people in dreams

“Interactive dreaming” is apparently possible: A team of scientists has found out how to communicate with people who are currently sleeping.

Evanston (USA) – “Interactive dreaming” is obviously possible: A team of Scientists figured out how to communicate with people who are sleeping. So some sleepers can even solve math problems in a dream and answer questions.

Although dreaming is something completely normal for us humans, there is as yet no exact scientific explanation for what exactly happens to a human brain during sleep. Well proves a new study but at least that one can “speak” to the outside world even in dreams.

Professor Ken Paller of Northwestern University in Illinois is one of the drafters of the Study published online on Thursday, and explains, “We found that you can interact with and even communicate with people while you sleep.”

“We have also proven that dreamers are able to understand questions and provide answers,” says Paller of the research result.

For their study, the scientists examined 36 people who have mastered so-called “lucid dreaming” – a technique in which one is fully aware in the dream that one is dreaming.

During the experiments, the sleepers managed to complete certain challenges, solve simple math problems (for example “eight minus six”) and even answer yes-or-no questions!

Of course, the dreamers could not speak to the scientists directly from their sleep. Instead, they responded by moving their eyes or tensing their facial muscles.

The results of the study could help further explore both dreams and human memory in the future. Perhaps they could also lead to new techniques to avoid nightmares.

However, not only one US university worked on the scientific study. Researchers from France, the Netherlands and even from the University of Osnabrück were also involved.
