Leicester (2nd) and West Ham (4th) had a dream Sunday on matchday 25 of the Premier League by defeating Aston Villa (8th) and Tottenham (9th) respectively, for the same result (2-1), reinforcing their hopes qualifying for the next Champions.

While waiting for Manchester United-Newcastle (19h00 GMT), Leicester took second place in the standings ahead of the Red Devils, defeating Aston Villa as visitors.

With 49 points, the Foxes are three ahead of United, but the latter have a favorable goal difference that will return them to second place, behind Manchester City, in case of victory.

The Citizens, who play at Arsenal at 16:30 GMT, still have a seven-point cushion over Leicester.

Surprise team of the championship, Aston Villa seems to gradually return to reality with its eighth place, and 36 points, although the Birmingham club has two games less.

Deprived of his brain Jack Grealish and facing a formation that has the best balance away from home in the championship, with 30 points out of 39 possible as a visitor, Villa failed to correct an unfavorable start to the game.

The 2016 champions of England struck twice first, through James Maddison (1-0, minute 19) and Harvey Barnes (2-0, 23), before the eyes of England coach Gareth Southgate, who continues to add information on players ahead of the Euro this year.

Burkinabe Bertrand Traoré gave his team hope at the start of the second period (2-1, 48), but Leicester gave proof of control of the game to preserve the result.

For their part, West Ham, with their victory at home in the London derby against Tottenham (2-1), rose to fourth place in the Premier, qualifying for the Champions League.

With 45 points, the Hammers took advantage of Chelsea’s draw at Southampton (1-1) on Saturday to take a two-point lead over the Blues, and 5 over Liverpool and Everton.

Tottenham, meanwhile, is 9th with 36 points, and will have to row hard to get a ticket to the next edition of the top European competition.

With a single victory in the last six dates, José Mourinho’s ‘Spurs’ paid for their disastrous starts in each part of the game.

Five minutes later, center forward Michail Antonio beat Hugo Lloris against the passivity of the defense, to go 1-0 on the scoreboard.

And in the 47th minute it was Jesse Lingard, on loan from Manchester United, who sealed the 2-0 with a cross shot.

The Spurs reaction began with the entry into play after Gareth Bale’s break.

The Welshman crossed from a corner to Brazilian Lucas Moura, who reduced head differences (64).

In addition, Bale was about to achieve the equalizer with a shot from 20 meters that touched the crossbar (78e).

The post saved West Ham again in added time following the action of South Korean Son Heung-min.
