Trump returns to public speeches on Sunday with elections on the agenda – The Economic Journal

The conference, which will begin next Thursday in Orlando, with work sessions kicking off on Friday, will be the stage for Trump’s first public speech since he left the presidency on January 20.
The ex-president was acquitted this month at the political trial opened in Congress as an alleged instigator of the violence unleashed by his Capitol supporters on January 6.

According to sources close to Trump, quoted on Saturday in various media, the former president will speak about “the future of the Republican Party and the conservative movement” and the policies, which he considers “disastrous”, of the current president, Democrat Joe Biden on immigration and border issues.

In addition to Trump, who has yet to acknowledge his defeat in last November’s elections, his son Donald Trump Jr., who will speak next Friday about “Reviving the spirit of the American dream”, will be presented by his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle.

Several members of Trump’s cabinet and his staff are scheduled to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference, including Mike Pompeo, former secretary of state, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders, former press secretary of the White House.

Current Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a staunch supporter of Trump, whom the media points to as a possible candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, and his predecessor in office, Senator Rick Scott, are also on the list, as well such as South Dakota governor Kristi Noem; and Texas senator Ted Cruz, one of the few speakers of Latin origin.

The meeting’s agenda is a compendium of the concerns of conservatives and Trump himself, with special attention to the big tech companies, which blocked the reports of Trump and others on social networks, by messages related to China and which they considered inciting violence.

Several of the speeches are dedicated to the theme “Protecting the elections”, in an allusion to the fraud that Trump says he was a victim of, and with a view to the midterm elections to be held on November 8, 2022 – the so-called mid-term elections, midway through the presidential term, to seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate – where the Republican Party aspires to regain legislative control.

The defense of the right to life against abortion, the right to carry weapons, “the impending humanitarian crisis on the border”, a theme by Chris Landau, former US ambassador to Mexico, and the energy policy of the Biden administration are also included in the schedule.

Since leaving the presidency of the United States, Trump has resided in Palm Beach (Florida), in his private club Mar-a-Lago, and has so far kept himself out of public life.
