West Ham defeats Tottenham 2-1 and enters the Champions zone

West Ham backed up its bid to qualify for the Champions League after defeating Tottenham 2-1 on Sunday to make it into the top four of the Premier League.

Jesse Lingard, revitalized after being loaned by Manchester United last month, scored the winning goal in the 47th minute, finishing with a left-footed shot after a pass from Pablo Fornals.

Tottenham also conceded an early goal when Michail Antonio took advantage of the rebound that goalkeeper Hugo Lloris left off a header from the West Ham forward in the fifth minute.

Lucas Moura discounted for Tottenham in the 64th from a corner kick from Gareth Bale, whose good performance as a substitute in the second half included a shot to the crossbar.

Son Heung-min also shook the poles at discounts.

Tottenham moved further away from the Champions zone, lagging nine points.

Fourth place is currently held by a boiling West Ham in the hands of David Moyes, who has repaired his reputation as a manager at a club in East London that has historically suffered from relegation.

West Ham have only lost one of their last nine English league games, while Tottenham have been beaten in five of the last six.
