Wreckage of a United Airlines Boeing 777-200 crashed on Saturday in the suburbs of Denver when the plane had to return to the airport for an emergency landing, following the failure of one of its engines.
The United Airlines plane had taken off from Denver at 8.05 pm to Honolulu. On board 241 people followed, including ten crew members.
Shortly after take-off, one of the engines caught fire.
According to authorities, quoted by the Associated Press (AP), the Boeing 777-200 managed to land safely at Denver International Airport and no one on board or on the ground was injured.
Dozens of debris were scattered around the Broomfield neighborhood, located some 25 miles north of Denver. Large wreckage fell next to a dwelling.
Tyler Thal, a resident in this area, told the AP that when he was walking with his family, he realized that a large commercial plane was flying strangely low and that he started shooting with his cell phone.
“While looking at the plane, I saw an explosion and then a cloud of smoke and some falling debris. The plane just went on and we didn’t see it after that,” he said.
